The Ice Eagles project focused on scientific exploration in Antarctica during the International Geophysical Year (IGY), a period from July 1957 to December 1958. Scientists from 66 countries, including 12 with stations in Antarctica, worked to understand the physical Earth and improve data collection methods. The project was not without challenges, which include extreme weather, dangerous conditions, and aircraft crashes, leading to technological advancements in aircraft design and navigation systems.
Over the years, Antarctic exploration has evolved into a collaborative international effort to study climate history and the impacts of climate change.
