Some rock and roll deaths deserve a mention from me, and some deserve a tribute. This is a tribute to one of the true pillars of early rock and roll, Don Everly – a man who, along with his brother, Phil, put Western Kentucky on the map and made vocal harmonies a staple of the genre long before The Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel were even thought of. In fact, the latter owe part of their existence to the likes of the Everly Brothers. Paul Simon cited them as a main influence. May they both rock in peace and may their voices hold the pediment of heaven aloft.

This concert was captured by me on a Sony microcassette on September 2, 2000 at the Everly Brothers Homecoming Concert in Central City, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. The Everly’s were joined on stage by the late. great Buddy Emmons on steel guitar. Other performers on the day were Jessica Andrews, John Prine and Trace Atkins.
